Planome Privacy Policy and Your Data

Who are we, and why did we create Planome?

Behavioral Cybernetics LLC is the organizational avatar of Thomas A. Houpt (Professor in Biological Science at Florida State University) and Charles E. Houpt (habilis.net, Ithaca NY), who produce and maintain a variety of scientific and academic software applications. Having a separate company makes it easier to articulate with third party services such as Apple and Google Cloud. It also distinguishes our efforts from any official endorsement by Florida State University: although we make our software freely available to the FSU community, it is not endorsed, maintained, or guaranteed by FSU.

Planome was developed as a more streamlined and intuitive way to schedule group meetings and many-to-one appointment times. Meetings, after all, are the highest expression of academic endeavor.

What data is used and stored by Planome?

When you login to Planome using your FSUID, the FSU Central Authentication Service provides Planome with your basic directory information (eg name, fsuid, and preferred email address). Planome never sees or records your fsuid password -- that is handled by the FSU servers which returns a limited time authentication token confirming your identity. Your name and fsuid are used to index and locate your stored event data; your email address is used to send confirmation emails using the MailGun service.

Is your event data shared with Behavioral Cybernetics or anyone else?

No. All of your event and schedule data is stored in Google Firebase cloud storage, and synced with your Google Calendar account, but not on any FSU or Behavioral Cybernetics servers.. Your data is never sent to Behavioral Cybernetics. None of your event data is shared with anyone else at FSU nor with anyone else.

Who has access to your data?

Event and schedule data are encypted and stored in Google Firebase. Only you, as authenticated with your fsuid login, can access your full schedule. Any authorized fsuid holder can view a schedule for enrolling in a meeting or signing up for appointments, but only if you have shared the randomized link key for that particular meeting with them. Behavioral Cybernetics developers also have access to the firebase database

Why does Planome ask for your Google username and password?

If you decide to use the Google Calendar synchronization feature for scheduling office hours and appointments, then Planome will use your Google username and password to sync and display your availability. Your account information is never used for any reason other than to sync your data, and your account information never leaves your device. This is an optional feature and is not required to use Planome,

What data is sent to Behavioral Cybernetics?

Matomo is used to collect usage information on our website. If Do Not Track is enabled in your web browser then no information is collected. Usage information is for internal use only and is not shared with anyone else, except as aggregate summary statistics. In particular, when an error occurs, such as when a page fails to display, or there is an error saving or retrieving data, we are notified about the error and its context.
